Before Marc started working as a sous-chef for De Nieuwe Poort Amsterdam, he lived on the street. Pretty intense for a kid who attended high school in Hilversum. According to Marc, he wasn’t the easiest teenager to deal with. After things at home deteriorated, he ended up on the street. He arrived at De Nieuwe Poort via Streetcorner and Back to School.

Marc and the then chef immediately hit it off. Marc finds it difficult to appreciate himself, as many people wrote him off when he was young and still developing. But he’s doing better and better. He has started a new challenge as a server and in the meantime he is quietly dreaming of the future: a larger apartment, perhaps a family … ‘It’s time for me now. Really for me.’
